Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor operational data to determine the compliance of a process and to take appropriate action on non-conformances.
This unit applies to individuals who are required to collect and perform specified manipulations on process data, distinguish between random and non-random variations, take action according to procedures and contribute to process improvements.
This unit applies to any organisation that is implementing statistical process control and continuous improvement, typically within competitive systems and practices.
No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
What You'll Learn
1.
- 1.1 Take specified measurements, readings and/or observations
- 1.2 Enter data in log, computer or other record
- 1.3 Manipulate and/or chart data
2.
- 2.1 Examine chart and/or reliability information
- 2.3 Take action specified in procedures on variations with an identifiable cause
3.
- 3.1 Collect data for process capability improvement trials
- 3.2 Make recommendations for improvement
- 3.3 Implement revised capability monitoring procedures
Assessment Requirements
Performance Evidence
There must be evidence the candidate has completed the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and demonstrated the ability to:
• collect and process data according to procedures on at least 2 occasions
• identify at least 2 non-random variations and take action specified in the procedures
• assist in at least one process improvement.
Knowledge Evidence
There must be evidence the candidate has knowledge of:
• different meanings of process capability
• defects and defective product
• variation and the related statistical distribution
• control charting (or similar) methods
• analysis of information to identify trends or other non-random results
• determination of identifiable causes from variation information
• procedures for recommending improvements.
Assessment Conditions
Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and contingencies. The following conditions must be met for this unit:
• use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including:
• functioning statistical process control systems
• modelling of industry operating conditions.
Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
Foundation Skills
- {'skill': 'Foundation Skills', 'description': 'This section describes those language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills that are essential to performance but not explicit in the performance criteria.\n• Reading skills to understand workplace documentation\n• Writing skills to record and/or enter data\n• Oral communication skills to discuss process improvements\n• Numeracy skills to collect and manipulate data, identify non-random variations.\nOther foundation skills essential to performance are explicit in the performance criteria of this unit.'}
