Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to oversee the implementation of pre-existing sustainability plans.
This unit applies to managers, operational or technical specialists and others who are required to interpret sustainability plans, engage and maintain support from stakeholders, oversee the implementation of project activities and identify further opportunities for improvement.
This unit applies to any organisation.
No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
What You'll Learn
1.
- 1.1 Identify project goals, metrics and activities from sustainability plan and related data and information
- 1.3 Identify benefits of proposal for each stakeholder or stakeholder group
- 1.4 Discuss project with stakeholders to identify causes of resistance to proposal
- 1.5 Develop strategies to address resistance and negotiate with key stakeholders to gain support

- 2.1 Brief project team and establish agreed timelines
- 2.3 Establish data collection systems and responsibilities for each indicator
- 2.4 Validate data collection against indicators

- 3.1 Oversee and guide team to achieve activities and timelines
- 3.3 Liaise with team and stakeholders to identify stakeholder issues requiring action
- 3.4 Facilitate problem-solving and negotiation processes to resolve issues
- 3.5 Identify changes to sustainability plan to address stakeholder issues and/or team issues
- 3.6 Liaise with decision-maker/s on any amendments to sustainability plan
- 3.7 Report on progress according to sustainability plan and/or organisation requirements

- 4.1 Evaluate outcomes against project goals to identify achievements and non-conformances
- 4.3 Analyse results to determine options for further sustainability improvements
- 4.4 Document and report project results and options for further improvements according to organisation requirements
Assessment Requirements
Performance Evidence
There must be evidence the candidate has completed the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and demonstrated the ability to:
• oversee the implementation and evaluate the results of at least one sustainability plan.
Knowledge Evidence
There must be evidence the candidate has knowledge of:
• current and emerging industry sustainability practices relevant to sustainability plan
• common sustainability indicators and sources of data related to sustainability plan
• current and emerging approaches to quantifying and evaluating costs, benefits, impacts and risks in relation to sustainability, including direct, indirect and intangible factors
• design thinking as applied to problem solving and innovation for sustainability
• likely causes of resistance relevant to sustainability improvements
• methods of dealing with resistance and/or change management strategies
• data validation techniques
• techniques to analyse data for trends, aberrations and factors requiring action
• project planning and monitoring
• AS/NZS ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems or its authorised replacement
• sustainability-related regulatory and reporting requirements relevant to the industry
• sustainability-related voluntary standards, codes, reporting frameworks, certification and co-regulatory arrangements relevant to the industry.
Assessment Conditions
Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and contingencies. The following conditions must be met for this unit:
• use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including:
• project plan (or action plan) for sustainability related improvement/s
• access to relevant sources of data
• modelling of industry operating conditions.
Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
