Application
This unit describes the performance outcomes, skills and knowledge required to provide emergency relief to people and families.
The work described in this unit will take place within an agency or service and may be provided in a range of areas including but not limited to finance, food, shelter, managing utilities, health and disaster relief.
This unit applies to emergency relief, community work or a community development work context. Workers at this level are part of a professional team and have the responsibility of supervision of others.
The skills in this unit must be applied in accordance with Commonwealth and State or Territory legislation, Australian standards and industry codes of practice.
No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Assessment Requirements
Performance Evidence
Evidence of the ability to complete tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit in the context of the job role, and:
• implement and monitor emergency relief services for two different people or families.
Knowledge Evidence
Demonstrated knowledge required to complete the tasks outlined in elements and performance criteria of this unit:
• Commonwealth, State or Territory legislation and regulation relevant to emergency relief provision
• emergency relief in a disaster context
• processes for management of emergency facilities to meet diverse needs in the community
• organisational code of conduct
• services available from the agency
• own role and responsibilities
• referral networks and their service provision
• organisation’s availability of internal and external emergency service provision, resources and assistance
• strategies to maintain personal wellbeing
• organisational policies and procedures for:
• mandatory reporting
• privacy and confidentiality
• provision of emergency relief services
• maintaining data, files and financial records.
Assessment Conditions
Skills must be demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions.
Assessment must ensure:
• access to facilities, equipment and resources that reflect real working conditions and model industry operating conditions and contingencies
• access to Commonwealth, State or Territory legislation and regulation relevant to emergency relief provision
• access to organisational policies and procedures
• opportunities for engagement with community stakeholders.
Assessors must satisfy the Standards for Registered Training Organisations’ requirements for assessors.
