This unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to apply quality standards to work operations in an organisation.

Assessment Requirements
Performance Evidence
Applied quality standards to at least two different products, processes or procedures, each with at least two quality criteria, according to workplace procedures
Identified and reported at least two instances of quality non-conformance according to workplace procedures
Participated in at least one quality improvement activity
Knowledge Evidence
Quality standards relevant to own work
Quality responsibilities and authority in own role
Quality procedures relevant to own role
Causes of quality deviations
Quality improvement processes
Assessment Conditions
Assessors must:
• hold training and assessment competencies as determined by the National Skills Standards Council (NSSC) or its successors
• have vocational competency at least to the level being assessed with relevant industry knowledge and experience
Assessment methods must include:
• direct observation of practical application of the competency in a workplace or simulated environment
Assessment must occur in a workplace or simulated environment using realistic workplace equipment and resources
Evidence required for assessment must include:
• evidence of successful application of each of the elements and performance criteria in a range of situations covering all aspects of the performance criteria
• evidence of successful application of each of the knowledge evidence items
• evidence of successful application of each of the performance evidence items
• evidence of the foundation skills essential for the performance of the unit
Simulations must be:
• workplace-based or in a simulated workplace environment that replicates workplace conditions
• conducted by a qualified assessor
Assessors must ensure that the simulated environment:
• reflects realistic workplace conditions
• provides access to required equipment and materials
• allows observation of candidate performance
Where assessment in the workplace is not possible, simulations must be:
• designed to closely replicate the workplace context
• validated by subject matter experts
Evidence collected for assessment must include:
• products produced by the candidate
• records of quality checks and reports
• participation in quality improvement activities
Holistic assessment with other units relevant to the industry sector, workplace and job role is recommended.
