Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to prepare for production within the manufactured mineral products industry.
This unit applies to operators who are required to take responsibility for own outputs and follow established procedures to confirm material requirements, assemble materials and perform equipment checks. Operators are also required to work autonomously and apply their own judgement to interpret information; monitor processes; identify and address routine and non-routine problems and control hazards.
This unit applies to an individual working alone or as part of a team or group and in liaison with other shift team members, team leader and supervisor.
No licensing or certification requirements exist at the time of publication. Relevant legislation, industry standards and codes of practice within Australia must be applied.
What You'll Learn
1.
- 1.1 Identify type of product and raw or reclaim materials required
- 1.2 Calculate time to run and quantities required
- 1.3 Check quality required and any special requirements
2.
- 2.1 Order quantities of materials required
- 2.3 Visually check that materials are free from contamination and suitable for production
- 2.4 Report contamination or other non-conformance
3.
- 3.1 Check required program
- 3.3 Correct or report maintenance requirements
- 3.4 Check that equipment has been test run
- 3.5 Check that equipment is set and adjusted according to production schedule
4.
- 4.1 Identify and rectify faults and equipment failure
- 4.2 Maintain records and log books of equipment operations
- 4.3 Identify non-routine problems and report to designated person
5.
- 5.1 Identify production preparation hazards
- 5.2 Implement hazard controls according to procedures
- 5.3 Report safety concerns according to procedures
Assessment Requirements
Performance Evidence
There must be evidence the candidate has completed the tasks outlined in the elements and performance criteria of this unit, and:
• confirmed production plan requirements on at least 1 occasion, including:
• calculating quantities and checking requirements of materials
• recognising possible causes of the following routine problems:
• raw material variations
• process problems
• mechanical abnormalities
• electrical and instrument reading variations.
Knowledge Evidence
There must be evidence the candidate has knowledge of:
• relevant Australian Standards, how to access them and how they relate to role
• basic workings of plant and its interactions
• how own role impacts other roles and processes
• equipment, including:
• electronic and/or pneumatic equipment being used
• components and functions
• start-up, operation and shutdown procedures
• common requirements for equipment preparation, pre-start checks and test runs
• common indicators of equipment requiring maintenance
• the potential effects equipment settings in relation to quality of product or output
• impact and common indicators of material contamination
• testing procedures
• the potential effects of variations in raw materials on quality of product or output
• routine problems and factors that impact on product quality or production output, their probable causes and relevant corrective actions
• enterprise production schedules
• production preparation hazards and:
• their possible causes
• potential consequences
• risk control procedures.
Assessment Conditions
Skills must have been demonstrated in the workplace or in a simulated environment that reflects workplace conditions and contingencies. The following conditions must be met for this unit:
• use of suitable facilities, equipment and resources, including:
• production equipment and ancillary equipment
• specifications, procedures and job sheets
• raw materials
• modelling of industry operating conditions, including:
• routine and non-routine problems.
Assessors must satisfy the NVR/AQTF mandatory competency requirements for assessors.
