Application
This unit of competency defines the skills and knowledge required to produce illustrations for manufacture, modification or repair of jewellery items.
Where computerised storage and retrieval systems are used unit MEM16008 Interact with computing technology should also be selected.
Where a computer-aided design (CAD) system is required to be used appropriate units should also be selected.
Where interpersonal and customer/client service skills are required to be used the appropriate units should also be selected.

What You'll Learn
1. Determine job requirements

2. Prepare or modify drawing
- 2.1 Select tools and equipment for drawing
- 2.2 Generate illustrations consistent with enterprise SOPs
- 2.3 Render illustration
- 2.4 Approve illustration and accompanying documentation in accordance with SOPs
- 2.5 Use, store, file, copy and issue working and reference drawings and illustrations
Assessment Requirements
Performance Evidence
Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least two (2) occasions and include:
following work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe work practices
identifying and interpreting specifications
selecting equipment appropriate to the illustrating method and requirements and preparing or modifying drawing
setting up and safely operating equipment
using colour, shadow and highlight techniques for emphasis to display jewellery design concept, and rendering illustration
approving final illustration as per design information and processing in accordance with procedures.
Knowledge Evidence
Evidence required to demonstrate the required knowledge for this unit must be relevant to and satisfy the requirements of the elements and performance criteria and include knowledge of:
safe work practices and procedures
workplace documentation, storage and retrieval processes
isometric and orthographic drawing perspectives
drawing equipment and applications, storage and maintenance
drawing methods
rendering applications and techniques and tools for the creation of illustration effects
jewellery designs, including shanks, settings styles, shoulders, decorative finishes
working properties of jewellery metals used in practical manufacturing applications.
Assessment Conditions
Assessors must:
have vocational competency in preparing jewellery illustrations at least to the level being assessed with relevant industry knowledge and experience
satisfy the assessor requirements in the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 or its replacement and comply with the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011, its replacement or equivalent legislation covering VET regulation in a non-referring state/territory as the case requires
Where possible assessment must occur in operational workplace situations. Where this is not possible or where personal safety or environmental damage are limiting factors, assessment must occur in a sufficiently rigorous simulated environment that reflects realistic operational workplace conditions. This must cover all aspects of workplace performance, including environment, task skills, task management skills, contingency management skills and job role environment skills
Conditions for assessment must include access to all tools, equipment, materials and documentation required, including relevant workplace procedures, product and manufacturing specifications
Assessment processes and techniques must be appropriate to the language, literacy and numeracy requirements of the work being performed and the needs of the candidate.
